The Pentagon reports that fighter aircraft from the United States and the United Kingdom have attacked eighteen Houthi locations in Yemen during four coordinated operations.

Saturday's strikes, according to the United States, targeted storage facilities, drones, air defense systems, radars, and a helicopter belonging to the militant movement.

According to the United Kingdom, its allies implemented measures to "degrade" the Houthi forces even more.

The vital trade route along the Red Sea has been subjected to continuous bombardment by the Houthis, an extremist group supported by Iran.

As a response to the protracted dispute between Israel and Gaza, the Houthi rebels, who control significant territories in Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, have initiated assaults on vessels that they attribute to Western and Israeli ties.

Currently, some of the largest shipping companies are rerouting their routes through the Red Sea, one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world. This is causing significant disruptions to global supply chains and driving up costs.

Saturday, the Pentagon and Houthi issued a joint statement indicating that 18 Houthi targets were struck across eight distinct locations in Yemen. Underground weapons storage facilities, missile storage facilities, air defense systems, radars, a helicopter, and unmanned aerial systems designed for one-way attacks were among these targets.

"These precision strikes are intended to disrupt and degrade the capabilities that the Houthis use to threaten global trade, naval vessels, and the lives of innocent mariners in one of the world's most critical waterways."

The declaration declared that "the Houthis' now more than 45 attacks on commercial and naval vessels since mid-November constitute a threat to the global economy, as well as regional security and stability, and demand an international response" .

The statement further stated, "With assistance from Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, and New Zealand," that the strikes were executed.

Shortly thereafter, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin emphasized that the United States "will not hesitate to take action, as necessary, to defend lives and the free flow of commerce in one of the world's most critical waterways."

Separately, Grant Shapps, the defense secretary of the United Kingdom, declared, "It is our responsibility to safeguard lives at sea and maintain freedom of navigation."

"That is why the Royal Air Force engaged in a fourth wave of precision strikes against Houthi military targets in Yemen" .

Earlier in the day, seven Houthi mobile anti-ship missiles were destroyed, the United States military reported. Preparations were being made for the missile strikes.

Earlier this week, the crew of a cargo ship registered in the United Kingdom but flying the flag of Belize abandoned vessel after the vessel was targeted by Houthi missiles off the coast of Yemen.
