The Indian government has characterized as "false" Pakistan's claims that its operatives murdered two Pakistani nationals on Indian soil in 2023.
India has refuted Ottawa's accusations that it was complicit in the killing of a Sikh separatist in Canada, which Pakistan has leveled months after the fact.
Islamabad claimed on Thursday to have "credible evidence" linking the two murders to Indian operatives.
It was deemed "malicious anti-India propaganda" by India's foreign ministry.
During a press briefing on Thursday, the Pakistani foreign ministry confirmed the two fatalities, naming Muhammad Riaz in Rawalakot city in September 2023 and Shahid Latif in Sialkot city in October 2023. Both individuals were killed in separate incidents; one was shot dead inside a mosque and the other outside.
Pakistan's foreign ministry remained tight-lipped about the identities of the victims and the motivations for the purported dispatch of agents from Delhi to carry out the assassinations within the territory of its arch-rival.
It was "a violation of its sovereignty" and "unacceptable" that the killings were described by Foreign Secretary Muhammad Syrus Qazi.
"We have documentary, financial and forensic evidence of the involvement of the two Indian agents who masterminded these assassinations," according to him.
His last point was that India needs to be made "accountable" for the "blatant violation of international law" it has committed.
India referred to Pakistan as a "epicentre of terrorism, organised crime and illegal transnational activities" without taking issue with Pakistan's particular claims.
"India and numerous other nations have openly cautioned Pakistan about the dangers of its own violent and terroristic culture," the foreign ministry of Pakistan stated.
While the claims in Canada and the US were the assassinations or attempted assassinations of Sikhs rather than Muslims, Mr. Qazi argued that the killings in Pakistan were comparable to those in those countries.
An American citizen from New York who supported Khalistan, or a distinct Sikh state, was allegedly the target of an assassination plan by an Indian man in November 2023, according to the United States.
An unnamed and uncharged Indian government official allegedly commanded Nikhil Gupta.
According to the White House, the purported murder plot was discussed with India at the highest levels of government. A high-level inquiry group has been formed by India to "address the security concerns highlighted by the US government," according to the country.
The announcement followed months of speculation that the Indian government was involved in the June assassination of a Sikh leader in British Columbia, following comments made by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau regarding "credible" evidence linking the two. That killing was not anything India was involved in, according to the country.
As a result of the accusation, relations between the two nations rapidly declined.
Violent insurgency centered on the Sikh-majority Punjab state reached its height in the 1980s, when the Khalistan movement reached its apex in India.
Forcefully suppressed, it no longer resounds in India but continues to resonate with those Sikhs living in diaspora in places like the UK, Canada, and Australia.
